Clay Object Mug ❤

It's almost Christmas. A time to spread joy and cheer. Everyone has their own traditions for Christmas. For me, I open my presents on Christmas Eve and spend time with my dad's side of the family. On Christmas day, I spend time with my mom's side of the family.

Usually my mom and dad get me and my brother a lot of presents. When it comes to my parents, they get presents from all of us, and from us separately. I had to make a clay mug that is suppose to look like an object for one of my projects. I couldn't decide once again on what to do. I was thinking about something ballet slipper themed and moon themed. After looking at some pictures, I showed my dad and he helped me decided to make a snowman. Since my mom loves snowmen, I thought it would a perfect present for her.

To make my pot, I took some clay and made two pinch pots. To make a pinch pot, I just rolled the clay into a ball and started to pinch the center and rotate it until I got a pot. After I got two pinch pots made, I put one of them on top of each other, making a round circle. Then I took some string to cut the top of the mug. After that I smoothed it out and made the handle, nose, and hat. When I was done making the mug how I wanted it to, my teacher placed it in the kiln so it can harden up. When that was done, I glazed it and my teacher put it back into to kiln.

Overall I think the mug looks really cute. I just love how it has a cute winter and Christmas vibe. I really hope that my mom likes it. This will be my last post until January. I hope everyone reading this has a Wonderful Holiday and a Happy New Year. Hope 2016 will be full of joy and cheer!

Unique Self Portrait Photo ❤

Not only am I a football cheerleader, but I am a basketball cheerleader! I started cheerleading when I was a sophomore in high school. The sport I actually cheered for first was basketball! I was only able to cheer for two games because a lot of us were newbies to cheerleading. Now that I'm more experienced, I have been able to cheer more. I took this picture right when I came home from the first game. I cheer for both the varsity girls and boys team. Both of them won the game I cheered at! I'm so proud of our team! Anyways, the reason why this picture is unique is that I look like I'm hiding behind my pom poms. I also don't wear contacts and makeup often. Normally I wear my glasses and wear no makeup. I really like how I look whether I look like a cheerleader or a little nerd.

Wire/Tape Figure ❤

This project was one project I was kind of nervous about. I wasn't really sure what to do. I was also running out of time. How am I suppose to make an amazing project with limited amount of time? Well, when the time came I decided to come up with a few ideas. My first idea was making a figure of a cheerleader doing a High V. I asked my dad if he could get me a block of wood. He suggested to me to get me a piece of wood from a tree. I thought that sounded really cool. The pieces he got me at first though were way too big! Luckily after a few days he got me a smaller piece. By the way the type of tree he got it from was a walnut tree.

After getting the block of wood, I got the idea of doing an elf. More specifically I was going to do like a silhouette of Hermy the Elf from Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. However, I hated how it looked. When I thought of doing the elf, I also had an idea of doing a bird. I decided to start over on the project and look up a picture of a wire bird. I then printed out the bird and formed the wire into the bird. My dad then drilled a hole into the wood and placed the bird in.

I wanted the bird to stand out more, so I asked dad what kinds of birds are common during the winter. He told me that Robins and Blue Jays were very common. I decided to color the bird based off a Blue Jay. I used acrylic paint. I also thought it would be cool to paint some parts of the wood white so it looked like snow.

I wasn't sure if I was going to like this or not, but in the end, I really like how it turned out. It's so simple but yet a little complex in a way.

Bokeh Photo ❤

Have I ever told you my favorite holiday is Christmas? Well, it is. I love how this holiday is the time is giving and peace. There is also the fact that its our Savior's birthday. It truly is a blessing. I just love the anticipation of Christmas. In fact, I always ask my dad if he can up the Christmas tree the day after Christmas. My brother and I would then decorate the tree. Sometimes he would be a goofball and put things that are not ornaments in the tree. It irritated me so much, and it still does. But it was always fun to place decorations on the tree with him.

If your wondering what bokeh is, its basically blurry Christmas lights. To get that, you need an object to be the main focus, making the lights blurry. For my object, I used a teddy bear that is suppose to represent the old Winnie the Pooh. Yes there is an old Winnie the Pooh, he wasn't originally yellow with a red shirt. In the very old books, he was a tan color and sometimes wore a light green shirt. Also to prove this, the original stuffed bear in the museum its located in is a tan color.

Anyways, After I adjusted the bear, I took a few pictures until I found one that I liked. I personally really like how the bear is looking at the tree. To me it's pretty cute.

High Contrast Black and White Photo ❤

Did I tell you that I really like cupcakes? Well, I do. I've loved them ever since I was little. These mini cakes are so perfect. You can decorate them however you want! They are very versatile in styles and flavors. Doesn't his cupcake look so good you want to eat it? Well, if you try to take a bite out of this one, I won't taste good at all. Why? Because it's an ornament.

My mom found this cupcake ornament off of Pinterest and she had to show me it. I loved it so much that on Saturday we bought things for it and then we made them a few hours once we got home! I thought they turned out so cute! Since The balls and everything varied in dark and bright colors, I thought this would be really good for a black and white photo. I just love how this turned out!

If you want to know how to make these, here is how:
You will need Spackle (I got mine from Menards) Christmas balls, a branch of fake holly berries, small beads, cupcake liners, a piping tip, a plastic bag, a spoon, ribbon, and superglue.

First I placed some Spackle in a plastic bag with a decorative piping tip. After that I piped the Spackle onto the ball with the piece that looks the ball at the top. After I placed some beads on there, after that I let the ornament dry for the night. The next day I placed the ribbon on for hanging, superglued the cupcake liner on the ball, and placed on an area for the superglue to dry. That's it! It was so much fun to make with my mom. I'm so glad she suggested me to make these.

Framing Photo ❤

I have to admit this photo was kind of difficult for me to do. I had no idea what I wanted to do. I asked my dad if he had any ideas, and came up with the idea of having a wreath be the frame. I thought that was a really cool idea! Mom and I were working on making some Christmas ornaments too, so I thought it would be a good prop for this photo.

Taking the photo was very time consuming. The wreath wanted to spin a lot and I couldn't get the right angle. After about 60 attempts, I finally found a few photos that I actually liked. This photo gives of a sense of calmness in a way. I say this because it's kind of Christmas themed, there's cupcakes, and there are pine cones. Pine trees grow all over our yard. Seeing the pine cones in a beautiful wreath surprised me yet made me realize how beautiful pine cones are.

Batik ❤

You are probably thinking to yourself, "What in the world is batik?" Batik (buh-tea-k) is basically painting by using fabric and fabric dye.

I wasn't sure what I was going to do for this one. I didn't want to do anything Disney themed this time. I looked up some pattern ideas, but they all just looked too complicated. I then decided that I wanted to do something Pokemon themed, and I found this really cute picture of Pikachu licking a  chocolate popsicle. I thought it was so cute! I also wasn't sure what I wanted the background to be, but I decided on doing an ombre background starting at purple and ending in pink.

First I made, I'm guessing you guessed it, another grid drawing. I just can't help it I like making them. After that I had to cut out cardboard for a base. If you remembered from my origami butterfly, I told you that I hate cutting cardboard. I still do. Anyways, i taped my drawing an the fabric I was using on the board and I started to paint.

I had to put a lot of layer of dye on it to make it like this. I also used blue to make highlights, and keep some of the colors from blending with each other. After I was ready, I wanted to make sure the color would lock in, so I used a hot iron an ironed my project. After that I placed my project flat in warm soapy water and waited about 10 minutes so the glue to loosen up. Then i rubbed my finger on the glue to get it off. Then I placed it to dry and then It was finished.

I thought this project was really cool. I never even thought of the idea of using fabric of your base of a "painting". It proves that fabric isn't just for wearing.

Food Photo ❤

Not only do I love art, I also have a passion for baking. I've always helped my mom bake treats and goodies ever since I was little. My grandma and great grandma also loved baking too. I guess I get my passion from my family. I've made multiple types of desserts. Brownies, cookies, homemade candy, creme brulee, bars, cake pops, pies, multiple things. My favorite things to make though are cakes and cupcakes.

Since I love baking, I decided I wanted to make something and take a picture. But what kind of cake should I make? I was looking on Youtube and one of the youtubers I'm subscribed to make this really delicious looking strawberry shortcake. Not only did it look good, it had many things in it that I love; cake, whipped cream, and strawberries. I just couldn't say no into making this!

I will have to say though, This cake took me two days to make. I made this cake last week on a Friday night. Then on Saturday after a long day, I made the whipped cream, simple syrup, and chopping up the strawberries.

I really loved the cake. The cake is a sponge cake, but it was pretty moist. The simple sugar adds that sweetness to it. The strawberries gave it that sweet tartness and the whipped cream and such a light frosting that is not too dense like actual cake frosting. It's probably one of my favorite cakes ever. My family really liked it too.

If you really want to make this cake, then go on YouTube and search "Cooking with Dog: Japanese Christmas Cake". Cooking with Dog is a Japanese youtuber that makes Japanese cuisine and has a poodle, Francis, as the mascot. The owner of Francis doesn't speak English. How was I able to understand her if I don't even know Japanese? Well, her dog "speaks English" so he guides you through his narration.

Now If you are going to make this, please listen to these tips:
1. I recommend to have the subtitles on when playing this video
2. DO EXACTLY WHAT THE RECIPE SAYS
3. For the pan, use parchment paper and bakers joy (or a cooking spray that has flour in it too)
4. If you use a pan that is 9 inches in diameter, double the recipe
5. Make sure you have extra whipped cream and a lot of strawberries (I got a quart of heavy whipping cream and one pound of strawberries)
6. Use cake or pastry flour since its low in protein
7. Make sure to weigh your ingredients with an actual scale, don't google search conversions
8. If you do double the recipe, just make one recipe of the simple syrup
9. If you want to make it cheap, make this during the spring and summer since strawberries will be in season

I had to take a ton of pictures to the right picture that I wanted. Luckily I got quite a few that I really liked. Just like the dalmatian I drew, I'm pretty surprised that I made such a beautiful and delicious cake! Maybe you will try this recipe too. I know that I will again c:

White Pencil Drawing ❤

I seriously can't even believe that I actually made this. I still think it's so surprising. Normally When you do pictures on white paper, you add in the shading. That's not the case here. For this project, it's the exact opposite. What I mean is instead of white paper and adding black shadows, I use black paper and add white highlights.

I had a few ideas for this project. I thought of doing the "Up" house, but I thought it would be a bit too difficult. I was searching pictures and Heidi told me that I should do Balto from the Universal Pictures movie. I didn't really feel like drawing him because I didn't know who he was. Then my brother's friend Jacob said that I should do a dalmatian. I liked that idea, but I didn't want to do a cartoon one, so I found a picture of a real dalmatian puppy that I liked.

After I got the picture, I printed it out and made another grid drawing. It wasn't really too hard to do in my opinion. Then it was time to make the highlights. I had the option of using a white colored pencil or a white charcoal pencil. I went with the charcoal pencil because I liked the texture it gave when you use it. After that I made multiple curved lines for the face, body, and paw. In some parts I added more opacity of the white by layering more white and pressing on the pencil harder.  The hardest part was making the nose look realistic. I added some dots at the top of the nose, then lightly colored over them. Then I did some tweaks and fixes to get the nose looking just right. I also lightly colored the blanket.

I really love this project. Like I said before looking at this picture still surprises me. I will always love drawing. This is probably one of my favorite projects.

Something Blue Photo ❤

Something about Winter is just so magical. The color of pearl white falls gracefully on the ground, eventually turning into a chilly sheet of snow. The trees get a beautiful layer of snow on them, like frosting on sugar cookies. Winter is such a wonderland. It's scenery is fascinating during the morning, but when its turning to night, you have this beautiful blue hue. This is blue hue during the winter is just breathtaking to me.

Of course I planned this picture out. Since I love that look of winter, I just had to take a picture for my something blue photo. All I did was wait for the snowfall. After that it was all based on timing. Using time was my guide to deciding that right amount of blue. If I waited too early it would have been grey. If I waited longer the sky would be black. When the time was right I took the picture. I can't wait to see what happens this year in winter.
